Ayurveda
The word "Ayurveda" is derived from Sanskrit and translates to "science of life" (ayur means life, and veda means science or knowledge). Ayurveda encompasses a holistic approach to health, focusing on balancing the mind, body, and spirit to prevent illness and promote wellness.
The Goddess Collection
The ancient principles of Ayurveda have inspired the Goddess Collection. Diet is an essential way to balance your Prakriti. The Goddess Collection is a simple way to add something to your daily routine that will help you with balancing your Prakriti.
Prakriti
Each individual is born with a unique constitution determined by their dominant dosha or combination of doshas. This is your Prakriti. You can think of it like your DNA. Understanding your Prakriti will help you tailor your lifestyle including diet, exercise, and daily routines, to maintain balance and prevent illness.
Doshas
Understanding one's predominant dosha and maintaining its balance is a central aspect of Ayurvedic health and wellness practices. Each individual has a unique combination of these doshas, which influences their physical, mental, and emotional characteristics. It is possible, however, very rare that someone is born with a balance of all three doshas.
Pitta Dosha: Fire and Water
Pitta dominant personalities are often described as ambitious, goal-oriented, and competitive. They have strong intellects, good concentration, and a sharp wit. When Pitta becomes imbalanced, it can manifest as symptoms such as skin rashes, inflammation, acne, indigestion, irritability, anger, excessive sweating, and hyperacidity.
Vata Dosha: Air and Space
Individuals with a dominant Vata dosha tend to have a slender build, dry skin, and variable appetite and digestion. They may have prominent joints, thin bones, and a tendency toward cold hands and feet. Vata types often have a quick, active, and restless disposition.
Vata governs the movement of food through the digestive tract and is associated with the principle of "samana vayu," responsible for digestion and assimilation. Vata types may experience irregular appetite and digestion, with tendencies toward gas, bloating, and constipation when Vata is aggravated.
Kapha Dosha: Earth and Water
Kapha individuals are generally calm, steady, and nurturing, with a compassionate and loving nature. They have a strong sense of loyalty and stability. When Kapha becomes imbalanced, it can manifest as symptoms such as weight gain, sluggishness, congestion, lethargy, depression, excessive sleep, and feelings of heaviness or stagnation.
It's important to note that while Ayurveda offers valuable insights into holistic health and well-being, it should complement, not replace, conventional medical care. It's advisable to consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner or healthcare provider before making significant changes to your lifestyle or undergoing Ayurvedic treatments.
